Expansion to enable world-class competition
Phase one of the redevelopment includes the demolition of the 70-year-old Robinson Stand, to be replaced by a temporary scaffolding grandstand, similar to those at international venues such as the Queen’s Club in London and Monte Carlo. This will increase southern-end seating from 880 to 1,200, without compromising sightlines. The expanded centre court area will allow for flexible configurations, including two basketball, netball or beach volleyball courts, a futsal pitch or four 3×3 basketball courts. Phase two will focus on installing the new roof, featuring a tensile membrane fabric canopy.
Resource consent for the redevelopment was granted in September 2024. In July 2025, Auckland Council approved an initial investment of $1.5 million towards the project. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2026, with the roof installation targeted for completion ahead of the 2027 ASB Classic.
