A flexible, multipurpose stadium
The stadium is designed to host a wide range of sports and entertainment events, including rugby union, rugby league, football, basketball, and netball, as well as concerts, trade fairs and other large-scale events. The use of relocatable seating allows for flexibility and rapid reconfiguration. It has a seated capacity of 30,750 in full sports mode, and 36,000 in concert mode. The North and South stands are permanent, with removable seating in East and West stand areas.
The stadium was partially funded by the University of Otago and incorporates university facilities within the complex, including a gymnasium, academic spaces and support facilities, alongside a large landscaped outdoor plaza, also designed by Jasmax. A series of interconnected quadrangles connect the stadium directly to the nearby university campus.
