Build-to-Rent Co-Living
New Zealand’s first compact co-living development
Community, convenience and flexibility
Jasmax has designed an innovative build-to-rent (BTR) co-living development, located in central Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland. A specific subset of the BTR sector, the co-living typology emerged in Europe and the US as a response to high land costs subsequently driving high housing costs, pushing residents further away from the areas they want to live.
Similar to international examples, the model offsets compact private apartments with extensive shared spaces for residents, and is located in close proximity to employment, retail, transport and public amenities. It also responds to the rise of the shared economy, social mobility, loneliness and single-person and couple households by providing a compelling experiential offering that prioritises community and convenience.
The 12-storey, 170-room development will offer flexible rental options for compact, hotel room-like studio apartments, each equipped with its own queen-bed, kitchen, living space and bathroom. Shared spaces for residents located on the building’s ground floor, mezzanine and rooftop include co-working and meeting spaces, two bookable kitchen and dining rooms, lounges, a bar, a shared laundry and outdoor roof terrace.
The development seeks to foster a sense of community and social interaction among residents, providing not only a desirable place to live but also a supportive environment for residents to connect, share resources and engage in communal activities.
