Matthew Downs

Matthew Downs is a Principal at Jasmax and an accomplished project architect with over 20 years’ experience working in the UK, Europe and Aotearoa New Zealand. An expert in multi-unit residential design, Matthew currently leads purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) at Jasmax, transforming the experience of campus life for University students across New Zealand and delivering sustainable and economical design solutions for building owners and operators.

Matthew’s current portfolio includes close to 3000 student beds in sector-leading accommodation developments including the University of Canterbury’s 500-bed Tupuānuku and future 280-bed Tupuārangi student accommodation developments in Ilam, as well as the University of Otago’s 450-bed Te Rangihīroa College and Aquinas College extension and upgrade. With a focus on attracting students and providing them with the best possible experience of life on campus, consistent high enrolments in recently completed developments proves the demand that exists in this growing sector.
