Barbara van Zyl
Barbara van Zyl is a highly accomplished Project Director with a wealth of experience leading projects of varying scales and typologies in Aotearoa New Zealand and South Africa.
Employing a hands-on approach, Barbara undertakes the full spectrum of roles, from a project’s inception through to delivery, ensuring successful outcomes every step of the way. As a team leader, her extensive knowledge and interpersonal skills contribute to building successful, enduring relationships with clients, consultants, contractors, and colleagues.
Throughout her career, Barbara has sought out projects with a social purpose, aiming to positively impact the communities they serve. Currently, she is the Project Architect for the AUT A1 Building, an innovative timber structure that will become the University’s lowest carbon and most energy efficient development. Her previous tertiary education experience includes being the Project Architect for Ngā Wai Hono, the Engineering, Computer and Mathematical Sciences building for AUT on the Auckland City Campus. In this capacity, she led a team of 24 architects, while successfully managing the consultant co-ordination process.
