Jasmax leading the design of Scott Base Redevelopment
Jasmax is proud to be leading the design of the Scott Base Redevelopment (SBR) in close collaboration with Antarctica New Zealand, RCP, RLB, the SBR design team and LT McGuinness. This major development secures Aotearoa New Zealand’s scientific future in Antarctica, significantly improving safety for scientists living and working in one of the harshest environments on earth, and reduces environmental impacts, upholding New Zealand’s obligations under the Antarctic Treaty.

The SBR project will incrementally replace aging infrastructure with a safe, fit-for-purpose, and sustainable research facility designed to support New Zealand’s continued presence in Antarctica for another 50 years. Central to the development is a new Base Services building, which will provide accommodation for scientists and staff living in Antarctica for up to 13 months.
Antarctica New Zealand has adopted a comprehensive, long-term masterplan for the redevelopment, designed by Jasmax in collaboration with the client, RCP, Steensen Varming, WSP and Hugh Broughton Architects. It outlines a staged redevelopment over the next 20 to 50 years.
