B201 shortlisted in WAF Sustainability Award 2024

We are delighted to announce that B201 for the University of Auckland has been announced as one of nine projects from around the world to be shortlisted for a Special Sustainability Prize at the World Architecture Festival (WAF) Awards. B201 is the only Aotearoa New Zealand-designed project to be elevated into this category, which showcases designs championing a pathway to a more sustainable future for architecture.
B201 is New Zealand’s highest Green Star-rated building and an exemplar of sustainability and low carbon design. Adaptive reuse and low carbon design strategies have resulted in B201 emitting half the embodied carbon and requiring only a third the average operational energy of an equivalent new building. The project received 6 Green Stars for Design and earned the most points awarded (93÷100) to any building from the New Zealand Green Building Council to date, categorising it as‘world-leading’.
Repurposing the existing structure reduced the length of construction by one year, accruing estimated cost savings of 25% when compared to replacement, demonstrating the cost-saving potential of innovative and sustainable design.
