Redefining professional services
Reinforcing a perception of professionalism and providing a premium employee experience are critical to top tier legal firm MinterEllisonRuddWatts’ success. A firm with a proud history, a timeless interior design aesthetic incorporating enduring materials and detailing was integral to MERW’s Auckland offices.
The brief called for a flexible layout that seamlessly accommodates a variety of activities – from hosting industry events to facilitating confidential client meetings.

Uniting past and present
The firm’s move to the PWC tower instigated a transition away from a hierarchical allocation of individual office space to an open ‘office free’ environment for its 245 staff. With this reorganisation came a brief that emphasised collaboration, knowledge sharing, and operational efficiency.
The light filled, open plan working areas are connected by a large, central staircase also designed by Jasmax. This feature, which enables ease of movement between each of the four MERW tenancy levels, is a key activator for promoting collegial relationships and knowledge sharing. The interior design reinterprets the aesthetics of a traditional legal practice, including dark stained timber linings, natural stone flooring, polished brass detailing, and muted furnishings, all firmly contemporary in their resolution.
