Paul is an experienced sustainability specialist and senior architect with over 20 years’ experience in New Zealand and the US. With a PhD investigating the environmental impacts of new ways of working in offices, he has authored environmental policy and provided sustainability advice to major corporate clients, government and NGOs. Since joining Jasmax, Paul has developed Jasmax’s sustainable design guidelines and worked with project teams and clients as a sustainability advisor.
Paul is Lead of Jasmax Carbon Research, within the Knowledge and Innovation Team. In this ground-breaking role for a New Zealand architecture practice, Paul is responsible for advancing the Jasmax Zero Carbon Strategy through the application of evidence based design approaches to life cycle carbon analysis.
Paul is actively involved in advancing sustainable building practices in industry, and he has been involved with the New Zealand Green Building Council since its inception in 2005. He is one of the most experienced Green Star assessors in New Zealand, having reviewed and assessed over 70 of the approx. 200 projects completed nationally to date. He is also currently a member of the Green Star Advisory Committee and was previously an expert member of the Office Tool and Industrial Tool Committees with ongoing involvement in the evolution of NZGBC tools.
As a designer, Paul has led multiple award-winning projects, in particular, the recent Waste Management headquarters which made a clean sweep of the 2020 Property Council New Zealand Rider Levett Bucknall Property Industry Awards, winning the Rider Levett Bucknall Supreme Award for best project overall, the Resene Green Building Award, and the CBRE Industrial Property Award.
