Jasmax and Architectus were commissioned to deliver the Auckland Queens Wharf Redevelopment, following a successful design competition for the site.

The design objective was to transform the previously under-utilised Wharf into a Fan Zone for the 2011 Rugby World Cup: a place where people from all over the world could come together to celebrate the event within a festival atmosphere.

With a pressing deadline, the team had to be highly responsive while also displaying strong design leadership. The key elements of the redevelopment included re-establishing the historic central wharf street, reconfiguring the ferry terminal pick-up and drop-off areas, a partial refurbishment of Shed 10 and landscaping elements such as seating, lighting and wharf surface upgrades.

This work provided the impetus for the future, long term development of Queens Wharf, including the complete refurbishment of Shed 10, and a Ferry Basin Masterplan, ensuring Auckland’s waterfront supports public transport as best as possible.
