Alasdair brings 15 years of experience and a broad range of expertise to his leadership of the national interiors team. This experience includes commercial, workplace and high-end residential design, product development and organisational strategy. Alasdair jointly leads Jasmax's National Interior Design team with Shirley Chin.
Alasdair is a skilled creative designer, who mixes his strategic thinking with his ability to produce practical design solutions to work closely with project teams to interrogate concept solutions. While leading his own studio, Vanillaspace, Alasdair assembled a portfolio of unique design projects that reflect his use of light, form, space, materiality and detailing.
Alasdair returned to Jasmax in 2008, when the opportunity arose to apply his small practice experience to the Jasmax expansion into Christchurch.
Alongside Principal Mike Thomas, Alasdair developed an astute business plan, growing the new studio amidst the global financial crisis and earthquake of September 2010. The practice is now almost three times its pre-quake size, with a variety of sectors that are soundly established in the local market.
Alasdair’s management and award-winning design skills enable him to lead a talented team of designers across the three main centres. His collaborative and inclusive approach draws on the broader team expertise, building a culture that values relationships across the industry.
