151 Cambridge Terrace received the Window Association of New Zealand (WANZ) Awards’ highest accolade as it was announced Supreme Winner at the awards evening on Friday 26 June 2015.

The night proved to be huge success for the project team who were recognised across five categories. Announced as the winners for Designing with Glass (Jasmax & Metro Performance Glass), Commercial $100,000 Plus (Alutech Windows & Doors) and Best Use of Glass (Alutech Windows & Doors) of 2015. The project also claimed the prized Glass Innovation Award (Metro Performance Glass) and declared Supreme Winner for 2015.

The judges commented: "This project showcases the expressions and moods that glass is uniquely able to deliver to a carefully thought out project. Just like the adjacent Avon River which inspires this building’s design, the glass façade mimics the river, changing its mood with the time of day and the lighting conditions."

Christchurch’s 151 Cambridge Terrace is identifiable by its distinctive undulating glazed façade. The floor-to-ceiling glazing allows natural light to penetrate deep into the building, connecting its users to the outdoors with unrestricted panoramic views across the River Avon and city beyond.

A particular innovation of the project incorporates a world-leading seismic strengthening technology which prioritises the users’ safety, and a design feature which enables large sections of the ground floor glazing to be opened up during the warmer summer months, further connecting the building’s users to the external environment.

Up close, it becomes apparent that the building is host to a number of 4m high glass fins. These external glazed sunshades, an adaptable design feature of the building, not only provide privacy and solar protection, but also regulate heat inside the building’s expansive open-plan space.

The judge commended the design team’s considered approach in this aspect of the project, saying "Commercial buildings inside the CBD that adopt an urban typology which responds to the street and urban context are rare. Deloittes Christchurch is smart, professional and considered. It is all about the façade here! Certainly no treble!"
